Caseform is building tools for two halves of the same problem: the mechanical work of assembling a case, and the preparation of the people who will give evidence in it.

For solicitors and counsel, the experts they instruct, and anyone who has to put a witness before a court, a tribunal or an inquiry.

What we are working on

Two halves of the same problem

    Preparing the case

    Assembling the papers, building the chronology, checking that the documents agree with one another. Necessary work, largely mechanical, and almost always done under time pressure by the people least able to spare it.

  • 02

    Preparing the witness

    Giving evidence is a skill, and most people who have to do it get very little practice at it — including the experts who do it often. Both halves are done late, under pressure, by people whose time would be better spent on judgement.

The worst time to find the weak point in your evidence is when someone else finds it for you.

How we are building it

    Preparation, not advice

    Caseform is being built to organise, assemble and check. Decisions about the law stay with the person responsible for them.

    Anchored to the record

    Anything the system produces should be traceable back to the document it came from, so it can be checked rather than trusted.

    Confidentiality by design

    Case papers are among the most sensitive material anyone handles. That constraint shapes the architecture from the start rather than being added afterwards.

    Built by someone who does the work

    The product is being designed around the preparation practitioners actually do, by someone who has done it.

Who is behind it

Richard Ryan

Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Caseform AI Limited. LL.B. (Hons), LL.M., M.A., Barrister.

Richard Ryan is a practising barrister, accredited mediator and chartered arbitrator in independent practice. He started Caseform because the preparation that surrounds a case — assembling the papers, building the chronology, and getting the people who will give evidence ready to give it — takes time that would be better spent on the questions that actually decide the case.
